Xbox’s Matt Booty has seen gameplay footage of Elder Scrolls 6 and described it as ‘amazing.’ The game is still in development, with no official release date announced. This marks a rare update on the long-awaited RPG.
Xbox’s chief content officer, Matt Booty, has publicly confirmed that he has seen gameplay footage of Elder Scrolls 6 and described it as ‘amazing.’
During an interview with Variety, Matt Booty revealed that he has personally seen gameplay of Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda’s highly anticipated sequel to Skyrim. He stated that the game ‘looks amazing’ and that it is progressing well in development. Booty’s comments provide a rare, direct insight into the game’s current state, which has been shrouded in secrecy since its announcement in 2018.
Bethesda’s Todd Howard has previously acknowledged that the game’s reveal was premature, and there has been little official information since. Booty’s remarks suggest that the project remains a priority for Bethesda and Xbox, despite the long wait. He emphasized that the game is still in development and will be announced at the right time, though no specific release window has been provided.
Why Booty’s Praise Matters for Elder Scrolls Fans
Booty’s positive remarks about Elder Scrolls 6’s gameplay are significant because they provide the first credible, firsthand confirmation that the game is progressing well. Given the game’s long development timeline and the community’s frustration over the lack of updates, his comments offer reassurance that Bethesda is making substantial progress. This could influence expectations for an eventual announcement and release, which remains unconfirmed.
For Xbox and Bethesda, this endorsement signals confidence in the project’s quality and development status. It also underscores the importance of Elder Scrolls 6 as a flagship title that could shape future RPG offerings and influence the gaming landscape upon release.

Long Silence and Development Timeline of Elder Scrolls 6
The Elder Scrolls 6 was officially announced in 2018 with a teaser trailer, but Bethesda has provided minimal updates since then. Todd Howard has admitted that the reveal was premature, and the project has been largely under wraps, fueling speculation and impatience among fans. Meanwhile, Bethesda has been focused on other projects like Starfield, which launched in 2023, and the company’s focus on that game has delayed detailed information about Elder Scrolls 6.
Over the years, there have been rumors and unofficial leaks about the game’s development progress, but no verified gameplay footage or official release date has been announced. Booty’s recent comments are among the most concrete indications that the game is still actively in development and nearing a more substantial reveal.
“I can tell you, having visited Bethesda and sat with Todd and seen ‘Elder Scrolls’ playing, it looks impressive, and it’s progressing in development.”
